Terms of Service

The Kingston Hood Cleaning Terms of Service are the conditions that apply to every job you book by phone or through this website. They cover what a quote includes, what the signed certificate says and does not say, the access the crew needs on the night, payment, and cancellation. They also cover the weather and roof conditions that can move a visit. The written quote for your kitchen is the agreement. Where the quote and this page differ, the quote wins. Ontario law applies.

What a quote covers, and what it does not

A free walk-through comes before the quote. Nothing is cleaned or charged during the walk-through. Your written quote comes back within 24 hours of it.

The quote lists the parts of the system that will be cleaned and gives the price for that scope. Anything not listed is not included. If you want extra work, such as a fan repair or an extra canopy, you approve it in writing before it is done. Fan repair is quoted per job after inspection.

If the crew finds a section that is damaged, blocked or unsafe to work on, work on that section stops. You are contacted before anything more is done or billed. What each service covers is described on the services page.

What the certificate asserts, and what it does not

After each completed visit, you receive a signed health and safety certificate with before-and-after photographs of every cleaned surface. The certificate records the date. It names each section cleaned and references the published NFPA 96 standard. Kingston Hood Cleaning is not affiliated with NFPA.

The certificate does not assert three things:

  • It is not a fire inspection. Kingston Fire and Rescue and the other local fire services carry out fire inspections.
  • It is not a code compliance certification for the building, the hood or the fire suppression system.
  • It is not a guarantee against fire. Grease builds up again from the next service onward.

The NFPA 96 guide explains the standard the certificate refers to.

Site access and safety

Work at the front of the hood starts only once the cook line is off and the crew has the access agreed in advance.

Before the visit, you confirm these points:

  • Power to the fan. The crew needs to switch off the exhaust fan for the work. The breaker or disconnect must be labelled and within reach.
  • Roof access. The crew needs a hatch, ladder or stair to the roof, and the key or code for it. Tell the crew before the night if your landlord or plaza manager holds the key.
  • Building keys and after-hours entry. Most visits are overnight or between services. Arrange in advance for someone to open the building or for keys to be left. Tell your alarm company about the visit.
  • Ferry timing for island kitchens. A Wolfe Island visit is booked around the ferry from the downtown waterfront. If a crossing is cancelled, the visit moves to the next workable date.
  • A cold line. Appliances must be off and cool when the crew arrives.

If the crew arrives and cannot get in, you are called before anything else happens.

Weather and roof conditions

Roof work depends on the weather. Ice, heavy snow, high wind or lightning can make a roof unsafe. Near the lake, freeze-thaw can lock a fan to its curb. If the crew judges the roof unsafe, the rooftop part of the job waits for a safe date. You are told what was finished and what is left, and the certificate names only the sections actually cleaned.

Payment, cancellation and rescheduling

Payment. The invoice matches the written quote. It adds nothing you did not approve in writing. Payment terms are printed on the quote and the invoice.

Cancellation and rescheduling. To cancel or move a visit, call 343-453-2343 as early as you can. Any notice period that applies to your job is printed on your written quote. A visit that moves because of weather, roof conditions or the ferry is rebooked at the next workable date. How a rebooking is billed is set out on your written quote.

Governing law

These terms and every job booked under them are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. How personal details are handled is set out in the privacy policy. Questions about these terms go through the contact page.

Terms questions

Is the certificate the same as a fire inspection?

No. The certificate documents what was cleaned and references the published NFPA 96 standard. Fire inspections are carried out by the fire service, such as Kingston Fire and Rescue in the city.

Can the invoice be higher than the quote?

No, not without your written approval. The invoice matches the written quote. Extra work gets quoted and approved in writing before it is done.

What happens if the roof is iced over on the night?

The rooftop work waits for a safe date. The crew tells you which sections were finished. The certificate lists only the sections that were cleaned.

Who arranges the roof key when a landlord holds it?

You do, as the customer booking the visit. Tell the crew before the night if the landlord or plaza manager holds the key.

What if the Wolfe Island ferry is cancelled?

The visit moves to the next workable date, and the written quote sets out how a rebooking is billed. Island kitchens are booked around the ferry schedule from the start.

Sort the details before the night

A question about the roof key, the breaker or the ferry takes a minute on the phone. Call 343-453-2343 before the visit is booked.
